Every country has its own national animal as its symbol. The national animals represent a particular country by its characters, features, behaviours, and natures.

Countries and their national animals represent strength and greatness in their own unique manner.

It is not necessary that the national animals will appear in the national flag or emblem of a country. However, some countries include their national animals in their national flag.

For example- Sri Lanka has included its national animal “lion” in its national flag.

A national animal symbolizes a country’s culture and tradition. It is quite interesting to know the different countries and their national animals.

  • USA (United States of America)

Let’s start the list of countries and national animals with the USA. The national animal of the USA is American Bison.

Bison is like a symbol of the strength of the United States of America.

Bison is the largest animal found in North America. The average lifespan of bison is 15-20 years and its weight is approximately 1000 kg-1300 kg.

  • Australia

Australia has Red Kangaroo as its National Animal. There is a common theory behind Kangaroo being the national animal of Australia.

Kangaroo is not so good at walking in the backward direction so it symbolizes the determination power of Australia to move forward positively.

  • India

National Animal of India is the Royal Bengal tiger. It is a symbol of bravery, strong, sharp intelligence, and fearlessness for India.

  • Kenya

Kenya has the lion as it’s National Animal. The lion is known as the king of the jungle.

The life span of the lion is estimated to be 15 to 20 years. It is a carnivorous animal.

They mostly found in grassland savannah. Due to its brave and defending character, it is considered as the national animal of Kenya.

  • Argentina

Argentina also owns an important place in the list of various countries and their national animals. The National Animal of Kenya is Rufous Hornero.

Rufous Hornero is quite common to see in Argentina, which is why it is declared as the national animal and also the national bird of the country.

  • Austria

The national animal of Austria is a bird i.e. Black Eagle. It is a carnivorous bird. Black Eagle represents the power, bold and victory of the nation.

The life span of Black Eagle is estimated be of 20 years.

  • Bhutan

The takin is related to religious history & mythology and known as the national animals of Bhutan. It is a muscular animal having dense fur on its body.

Takins are generally found in the forest valleys and alpine zones.

  • Brazil

Jaguar that belongs to the cat family is the national animal of Brazil. Jaguar is very similar to leopard but it is larger than the leopard.

One of the main reasons for declaring Jaguar as the national animal of Brazil is its importance in the cultural events of the nation.

  • Germany

National Animal of Germany is the Black Eagle. It belongs to the class of Aves.

The average lifespan of Black Eagle is 15-30 years.

  • Afghanistan

The national animal of Afghanistan is the snow leopard. It is a medium-sized wild cat that has beautiful prints on its body.

Across the Globe Dolphins are considered as the second most intelligent animals.

  • Bulgaria

The lion is also the national animal of Bulgaria. The powerful and strong nature of this animal makes it the national animal of Bulgaria.

  • Madagascar

The ring-tailed beautiful animal “Lemur” is the national animal of Madagascar. This species of lemur is only found on the island of Madagascar.

The average lifespan of ring-tailed lemur is approximately 30 years.

  • Pakistan

The national animal of Pakistan is Markhor or wild goat. It is a symbol of courage and intelligence for Pakistan.

Markhor acts fearless during prey that it can even jump from the mountain peak.

Markhor is usually found in the hilly regions of Pakistan. Markhor as its average lifespan of  10 to 13 years.

  • Bangladesh

Bangladesh also has the Royal Bengal Tiger as its national animal. It is also an example of endangered animal species.

There are various conservation projects are going on to save the tiger that is working excellently on protecting this wonderful species for the upcoming generations.

  • Libya

Libya has the Arabian Eagle as its national animal. Lybia has chosen this Eagle as its national animal as it is a symbol of courage and liberty.

  • France

France has named the Gallic Rooster as its national animal. It was in the ninth century that France named the Gallic Rooster as its national animal.

People in France believe that like Jesus showed the arrival of light after darkness the rooster notifies people the same thing. The rooster also symbolizes the vigilance in France.

  • Myanmar

In the list of different countries and their different national animals, Myanmar shares its national animal with India i.e. tiger.

The strength and power to rule the area make it the national symbol of Myanmar.

  • Malaysia

Malaysia has the Malayan Tiger as its national animal. It is a symbol of courage and strength that better represent Malaysia to the entire world.

  • Cambodia

Cambodia has the kouprey as its national animal. Kouprey is the rarest animal found in Cambodia.

The Brown Bear has been named as the National animal of Finland.

  • Canada

Beaver is named as the national animal of Canada. It a large-sized rodent that is nocturnal that lives in canals, lodges, and dams.

It is a great swimmer and semi-aquatic by nature. Beaver is mostly found in forest areas across the country.

  • Ethiopia

Denmark declared the “Mute Swan” as its national animal in 1984, before that the Skylark Alauda Arvensis was the national animal of Denmark.

  • China

China also has listed its name in the list of countries and national animals with beautiful looking animals “Panda”. It has black and white fur all over its body.

China decided to name the Giant Panda as its national animal amongst all the categories of the panda.

  • Chile

South Andean Huemul is known as the national animal of Chile. This animal is quite similar to deer having short legs.

The Huemul has a lifespan of 14 years. As per the IUCN red list of Threatened, Huemul has been registered as endangered species.
