magnificent, huge wild animal which is famous as World Elephant Day. The goal of Celebrating World Elephant Day is to create awareness about these amazing animals.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"History_of_World_Elephant_Day\"><\/span><strong>History of World Elephant Day<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>World Elephant Day was found on August 12, 2012, by Canadian filmmaker Patricia Sims in collaboration with the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>It was an initiative of HM Queen Sirikit of Thailand. \u00a0World Elephant Day represents the urgent predicament of African and Asian elephants.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, World Elephant Day has been celebrated throughout the world and to this day more than 100 organizations have reached countless people across the globe. World Elephant Day shows that elephants are loved and deserve a respectful life.<\/p>\n<p>World Elephant Day provides the platform to different organizations and people to give voice to the issues endangering elephants.<\/p>\n<p>This collective initiative gives policy-makers, politicians, citizens, and governments a way to create conservation solutions that will provide a haven for elephants, wildlife, and their future generation to cherish.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"World_Elephant_Society\"><\/span><strong>World Elephant Society<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>In November 2015 a non-profit tax-exempt 501(c) public charitable organization known as <a href=\"https:\/\/worldelephantday.org\/about\/our-story#:~:text=History,to%20lead%20World%20Elephant%20Day\">World Elephant Society<\/a> was found.<\/p>\n<p>This society circulates and creates information related to elephant conservation worldwide. This information is spread through different platforms such as social media, teacher\u2019s guide, and websites because elephants are endangered.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the species of elephants are on the verge of extinction because they face threats like habitat loss, poaching, conflict with humans over shrinking resources, and mistreatment in captivity. World Elephant Day provides an opportunity to raise your voice about these threats.<\/p>\n<p>It is the day where you can educate people about this <span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #993366;\" href=\"https:\/\/rememberanimals.com\/most-dangerous-animals-in-the-world\/\">largest land animal<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, share your concerns, suggest solutions for the betterment of elephants, and donate to protect these tusked mammals. Teachers can educate children through activities about the conditions of elephants because it is today&#8217;s demand .<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"World_Elephant_DayWED_Events_2013\"><\/span><strong>World Elephant Day(WED) Events 2013<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It was the second time the WED was celebrated. This was the reminder to the people around the world about the danger elephants are facing in. So, the objective is to unite people for the rightful cause of protecting this unique <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/rememberanimals.com\/facts-about-wild-animals\/\">wild animal<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust organized the International March for Elephants on Oct 4, 2013, it was part of the \u201cI Worry Campaign\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It took place in 13 cities around the world, amongst which the March for Elephants San Francisco was the most active because many volunteers and advocates took part and marched for the movement of elephants.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"WED_Events_2014\"><\/span><strong>WED Events 2014<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Many organizations across the globe came together to protect elephants from illegal poaching and the danger elephants are facing. According to a report by CITES(Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), twenty percent of African Elephants will die due to hunting and poaching in the coming ten years.<\/p>\n<p>So looking at the current scenario if not protected now, it is the believe that only 400,000 elephants survive in future.<\/p>\n<p>Many organizations came forward to join hands to protect elephants such as Gabby Wild Foundation who made an elephant theme photograph for world elephant day.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"WED_Events_2015\"><\/span><strong>WED Events 2015<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The fourth annual world elephant day held on the 12<sup>th<\/sup> of August 2015 anchors on protecting the Asian and African elephants.<\/p>\n<p>Because of creating of awareness about the WED in past few years it has resulted in joining many organizations for the cause of protecting elephants in the world.<\/p>\n<p>It has resulted in reaching out to millions of people and connecting all countries towards a single motive of safeguarding the elephants.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"WED_Events_2016\"><\/span><strong>WED Events 2016 <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In 2016 the WED chose Elephants of Asia as they are declared endangered. According to the educational website, Bagheera around 200,000 elephants remain in the Asian continent.<\/p>\n<p>It is estimated according to a report in 2016 by the CITES(Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) that PIKE (Proportion of Illegally Killed Elephant) has dropped <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/In 2016 the WED has mainly focused on Elephants of Asia as the International Union for Conservation of Nature declared them endangered. Because of it China has declared that it will ban all ivory-made goods by the end of 2017 to protect elephants.<\/p>\n<p>To stop ivory trafficking in Southeast Asia, Japan&#8217;s biggest retail company Rakuten Ichiba bans Ivory-made products.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017 the major focus is on the Asian elephants as more than 3,000 elephants are in captivity and are suffering abuse.<\/p>\n<p>The World Wildlife Fund took part in celebrating WED 2017 by creating a theme named Be Elephant Ethical or (BEE). The creation of such events makes a huge impact on people to join the cause of saving elephants around the world.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"World_Elephant_Day_2018\"><\/span><strong>World Elephant Day 2018<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Around the world, many countries organized events for the WED 2018. Some of them are below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In America, Elephant DC organized demonstrations held in New Jersey &amp; Pennsylvania to make people aware of elephant protection.<\/li>\n<li>To raise awareness about the rapid loss of the elephant population in Africa, Canada put a huge ice sculpture similar to an African elephant in the scorching heat of the summer<\/li>\n<li>#ivoryfreecanada campaign gathered a total of 200,000 signatures, through a Sign and Share petition.<\/li>\n<li>The Coochbehar Mountaineers Club in West Bengal, India organized a Rally for raising awareness on elephants. Steps for safeguarding along with a Quiz for the kids of adjacent areas of the forest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"World_Elephant_Day_2019\"><\/span><strong>World Elephant Day 2019<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>WED organization conducts many events in collaboration with various organizations of the world on 12<sup>th<\/sup> August 2019 which are here below.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The #ivoryfreecanada signed a petition to ban all goods of ivory in Canada.<\/li>\n<li>Germany organized a special week for elephants in the Zoo Leipzig.<\/li>\n<li>The WED organization released a feature documentary named \u201cA Herd of Orphans\u201d in support of world elephant day. The film showcased the special project of Elephant Orphanage in Zambia for the upliftment of elephants.<\/li>\n<li>A painting event conducted by Elephantopia in Gilbert, Arizona for elephants conservation with many more upliftment events.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"World_Elephant_Day_2020\"><\/span><strong>World Elephant Day 2020 <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Due to COVID 19 pandemic, the world was not able to celebrate WED. But, we have not let the motive down for protecting elephants.<\/p>\n<p>We love and care for the well-being of elephants around the world, so will continue to raise awareness for protecting elephants.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Some_major_highlights_of_World_Elephant_Day_2020\"><\/span><strong>Some major highlights of World Elephant Day 2020<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>WED 2020 celebrations went online for the first time due to the pandemic in the world. So the organizations conducted educational events online for the people.<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><\/li>\n<li>The online quiz competition organized by the CMS Vatavaran for all inter-school students. It was one of the various events for World Elephant Day 2020.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/rememberanimals.com\/animals-and-their-homes\/\"><strong>The Elephant Sanctuary<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>in Tennessee organized a virtual event in which the \u201cBringing the world together to help elephants\u201d was conducted virtually.
